well to start the story... as i do everyday i was munching away on an apple,red delicious to be exact. i bit into the core and just happened to look inside dont really know why. to my surprize the seeds were germinating inside the apple :ohmy: so needless to say i was happy i have never had luck starting apple seeds so i wrapped them in a wet papertowel and brought them home(i was at work) potted them and 2 made it they have been growing about 2 weeks now

Nice find with the apple. If they are anything like lemon seedlings, expect them to take it slow in the beginning. I germinated a lemon seed this winter and it's still less than 5 inches tall...with 4 leaves. haha

Congratulations, now wait some years so they can develop good taper, nebari and a nice trunk, and then put it in a pot and do the styling and refining work! Apple bonsai trees are great!

i plan to make big trees out of these so they can hold apples.still bonsai just big ones

Yes, but keep in mind to let only one (if you're planning on making a bigger bonsai 2, or 3) grow and remove it before they fruit.

Fruits are using many energy for the tree, and they are the same size as real apples; we have techniques to make the leaves smaller, but not the flowers or the fruits.

It doesn't only cost a lot of energy to make them, it is also very heavy for the tree to carry that apple.

Sorry to be a party-pooper here.. Yes. these are great little apple seedlings. I did the same thing about .. well.. mayb 20 years ago. The tree never made a single flower, even though we seriously tried. If you like the plant because you grew it from seed: Great. However, most apple-bearing trees used commercially will not flower (Or only barely) when not put on a wild rootstock. They have been bread to produce nice apples, but the roots have suffered.

You can get 'wild' apple seedlings that flower & bear small apples very easily (I bought a whole bunch of them last fall for something like 2 euros each). That would be a more logical starting point for an apple bonsai if you want flowers and fruits.

well 3 months and they are doing great ...exept for the sun burn the sun shifted in the sky and now seems to burn things in a day. i may have lost a maple and my seiju elm is browned pretty bad.they were fine friday night came home from work sat and poof.most trees were fine with no effects but the seiju (that loves the sun) is my favorite and im not happy ...

they are about 8 inches tall the right one has a good root spread starting already and the left one somehow was twisted through its own roots.this one might turn out neat




and while we're on fruit trees here are 2 of my golden plum and my crabapple

Nice material, however maybe you should plant some in the full ground so they will fatten up some more

hey guys, Ive just managed to grow some apple seeds and the first set of leaves are out, how much sun should these plants get, and when should i move it outside, at the moment its indoors in full sun. I like your thread by the way, got me motivated to try some apple seeds out.
